The Metal Powder Industries Federation (MPIF) is a “not-for-profit association” formed by the PM industry to advance the interests of the metal powder producing and consuming industries.

As its name states, it is a federation of trade associations—six in all—that are concerned with some aspect of powder metallurgy, metal powders, or particulate materials.

MPIF’s Professional Development Department, in upholding its commitment to meeting the needs of member companies for high-quality continuing education and training of their workforce, assembles an annual slate of short courses and seminars, registration for which is open to members and non-members alike. Traditional subjects (e.g., basics of PM, compacting & tooling, sintering) as well as topics of emerging interest offer the basis for the seminars and courses presented each year.

According to the Japan Powder Metallurgy Association (JPMA), four of its member plants are known to have been directly damaged by the devastating earthquake in eastern Japan. Apparently, damage was limited to equipment and there were no casualties among employees.
Union Process, Inc., Akron, Ohio, has developed a system for controlling the flow of liquid nitrogen in the grinding chambers of customers performing cryogenic grinding in laboratory and production mills. The system includes a probe inside the grinding chamber that monitors temperature at the same time as regulating the flow of liquid nitrogen into the mill.
